Austria face full-strength Hungary

While Hungary are already preparing for the 2025 World Championship with their World Championship squad, numerous players are still absent from the Austrian camp. It is an opportunity for others to make their case, and that is precisely what Head Coach Roger Bader expects from his players. The two friendlies on 10 and 11 April will be broadcast live on Krone TV.

While Austria have already completed their first week of preparations, including two friendlies against Latvia, Hungary only began their World Championship preparations this week. Even though his team will take to the ice with more match practice, Roger Bader expects a very strong opponent: "You have to bear in mind that Hungary are already at full strength. We are still missing more than a dozen players."

As in the previous week, the Swiss coach is all the more eager to see the young players prove themselves and make their case: "We have analysed the two Latvia games closely. Our first objective is to improve this week. For the players, it is about qualifying for the final phase, when the ICE finalists then join the team." Alexander Rebernig was called up on Monday after Patrick Söllinger was ruled out through illness.

Roger Bader sees Hungary already competing at full strength as extremely positive in terms of the development and experience that the young players in particular will gain in the two upcoming games.

Austria have come out on top in each of the last three meetings, including at the Olympic qualification tournament in Bratislava (SVK) last summer. Whether that will also be the case on Thursday and Friday remains to be seen, Roger Bader: "We want to win every game; we are competitors. At the same time, results are not the priority, and we must not forget that Hungary are playing with their World Championship line-up."
