Austria enter the final week of preparations with World Championship squad
Austria's men's national ice hockey team are entering the final stretch of their preparations for the 2025 World Championship. For the final team camp and the last warm-up match before departing for Stockholm (SWE), Head Coach Roger Bader will now also have NHL player Marco Kasper, reigning Swiss champion Vinzenz Rohrer and goaltender Atte Tolvanen at his disposal. Austria will play their final World Championship warm-up match against Canada at Vienna's Steffl-Arena on 4 May. ORF SPORT + and Krone TV will broadcast live at 19:00, while tickets are still available via the ÖEHV online shop.

Clearance from the Detroit Red Wings has been received. Marco Kasper will therefore join the national team from next Wednesday. Vinzenz Rohrer will join him, having successfully defended the title with the ZSC Lions in Switzerland last Thursday. Goaltender Atte Tolvanen will also join the squad. The MVP of the win2day ICE Hockey League playoffs was granted a longer break due to his heavily pregnant wife.
Following the second warm-up match against Germany on Saturday evening in Rosenheim (GER), Head Coach Roger Bader had to make his first difficult decision regarding who would no longer be involved in Vienna. "Yesterday's match was a so-called cut match," explains Roger Bader. Ahead of the match, Dominic Zwerger, Oliver Achermann, Paul Huber, Lukas Kainz and Clemens Unterweger were rested, with all five players having already been earmarked for the final team camp. Goaltender Benedikt Oschgan and forwards Felix Maxa and Maximilian Rebernig are initially on standby.
Austria will play their final warm-up match before the World Championship against Canada on 4 May. On 6 May, the World Championship contingent will then relocate to Stockholm, where they will face Finland in their opening match of the 2025 World Championship.
Head Coach Roger Bader: "This final week is about finding the World Championship team, because the match against Canada will not be a cut match. We will already play with the line-up that will presumably also contest our first match at the World Championship."
