Alps Hockey League: Clear win for leaders Kitzbühel against the Red Bull Hockey Juniors

League leaders EC Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel hosted their closest challengers, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors, and recorded a convincing 6:1 victory. Two goals, including Christopher Schutz’s fifth of the season, gave Kitzbühel the lead.

The Red Bull Hockey Juniors got back into the game through a goal from Leon Kolarik, but the Adler restored their two-goal advantage towards the end of the second period. Three goals in the final period sealed the win for Kitzbühel, who maintained their lead at the top of the table.

HK RST Pellet Celje let the game against Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan slip away and ultimately lost 4:6 at home. The hosts took an early 2:0 lead, with Mikus Mintautiskis opening the scoring with his sixth goal of the season. Celje extended their lead at the start of the second period through Jure Sotlar, who scored his fifth goal in four consecutive games.

Wipptal responded just under six minutes later with two goals in two minutes, and the teams went into the second break at 3:2. In the third period, the Slovenians managed to extend their lead, but the Broncos battled back and scored four unanswered goals. They secured the away win and also moved off the bottom of the table.

EK Die Zeller Eisbären celebrated their third consecutive win with a 4:1 victory over S.G. Cortina Hafro. Following a scoreless first period, Cortina took the lead through Riccardo Lacedelli’s fourth goal of the season. The "Eisbären" equalised in the third period through Daniel Ban, before three further Zell am See goals in the space of three minutes secured the home win in front of 1.309 spectators. The victory lifted the Salzburg side into third place.

HC Meran/o Pircher celebrated a 2:1 overtime derby win at home against Hockey Unterland Cavaliers. Meran took the lead in the first period, but the "Cavaliers" responded and equalised in the second. With one goal apiece in the final period, the game went to overtime, where Massimo Pietroniro secured the win for Meran in the final minute. The hosts moved up to sixth place.

In the Alps Hockey League’s only Wednesday game, HC Gherdeina recorded a 4:2 win over EC Bregenzerwald to close the gap on the league’s top-5 teams. HC Gherdeina made a successful start in front of their home crowd, with Bradley McGowan putting his team ahead after just under four minutes.

McGowan also added the 2:0 in the second period, before Bregenzerwald found their way into the game and equalised by the 38th minute. Gröden responded immediately, however, and ultimately secured a 4:2 victory.
