Alexander Bröms appointed new Head Coach of the women’s national team

“We are now placing our trust in a young, ambitious head coach who already brings considerable experience in women’s ice hockey and also knows the women’s ice hockey scene extremely well. Based on our personal discussions, I am convinced that he is the right person for this team. He is a very good communicator and also brings top references from Sweden,” explains General Manager Martin Kogler.

Bröms currently serves as General Manager of SDHL club Leksands IF and has previously worked as Head Coach of Sweden’s U16 and U18 teams. He also spent one season as Assistant Coach with Sweden’s senior national team and now joins Austria’s women’s senior national team with excellent references from the Swedish federation leadership.

In Petteri Hirvonen, the federation has secured another expert who has previously served as Head Coach of Ilves Tampere and Pelicans Lahta in Finland’s top men’s ice hockey league. Martin Kogler: “Petteri Hirvonen is a highly experienced coach who can look back on a professional coaching career spanning more than 20 years, making him the ideal complement to Alexander Bröms.”

Mario Bellina, who led the U18 national team to gold at the World Championship Division IB held in Radenthein in September, will continue in this role. “In the Head Coach of the U18 national team, we have a man on board who knows all the younger players particularly well,” says Martin Kogler.

Goalie Coach Thomas Dechel and Off Ice Coach Michael Ganster complete the coaching staff.
