AHL quarter-finals: Zeller Eisbären vs. Bregen­z­er­wald - Adler Kitzbühel vs. Wipptal

In the Alps Hockey League Pick, the top-3 teams after the Master Round selected their quarter-final opponents. With the first pick, EK Die Zeller Eisbären chose EC Bregenzerwald. Defending champions Rittner Buam SkyAlps will face HC Meran/o Pircher. While Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel were still able to select Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan, last season's finalists S.G. Cortina Hafro were left for SIJ Acroni Jesenice.

EK Die Zeller Eisbären (1st) vs. EC Bregenzerwald (Pre-Playoff winner 3)

  • For the first time in the Alps Hockey League, EK Die Zeller Eisbären finished top of the table in both the first phase of the Regular Season and the Master Round.
  • Overall, it is the third quarter-final qualification for the team from Pinzgau – but they have always exited at this stage so far.
  • Although EC Bregenzerwald finished the first phase of the Regular Season only in twelfth place, they then really hit their stride, winning Qualification Round B and subsequently their Pre-Playoff tie against HC Gherdeina valgardena.it 2:1.
  • For the Vorarlberg side, it is a second consecutive quarter-final qualification and their second appearance at this stage overall.

Rittner Buam SkyAlps (2nd) vs. HC Meran/o Picher (Pre-Playoff winner 1)

  • For defending champions Rittner Buam SkyAlps, it is their seventh quarter-final appearance. The two-time champions have only ever been beaten in the quarter-finals once.
  • The “Buam” only secured second place in the Master Round on the final matchday, with a 5:2 victory in Cortina.
  • For HC Meran/o Pircher, it is a second consecutive quarter-final qualification and their second appearance at this stage overall.
  • The “Adler” are unbeaten in eight matches: they recorded six wins in the Qualification Round, followed by two victories in the Pre-Playoffs against KHL Sisak.

Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel (3rd) vs. Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan (Pre-Playoff winner 2)

  • For Kitzbühel, it is their second quarter-final qualification overall – in 2023, they were eliminated at this stage.
  • The Tyrol side finished the regular season in third place, their best-ever result.
  • For Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan, it is already their fifth consecutive quarter-final qualification and their sixth overall in league history. Last season, they reached the semi-finals for the first time.
  • In the Pre-Playoffs, Sterzing narrowly defeated HK RST Pellet Celje 2:1.

SIJ Acroni Jesenice (4th) vs. S.G. Cortina Hafro (5th)

  • Having finished fourth after the Master Round, SIJ Acroni Jesenice could not choose their own quarter-final opponent and were assigned S.G. Cortina Hafro, the only club not selected.
  • After missing out on the quarter-finals last season, SIJ Acroni Jesenice have qualified for the playoffs with confidence this year.
  • For the champions of 2023, it is their seventh quarter-final qualification overall – so far, they have always reached the semi-finals.
  • Cortina have lost in the final in each of the past two seasons. Overall, this is already their seventh quarter-final qualification.
