Against Slovakia, atten­tion is already turning to China

The team should actually now be preparing intensively for the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey Women´s World Championship Division IA, originally scheduled for 11–17 April in Shenzhen (CHN). Due to existing travel restrictions and testing requirements in connection with the COVID19 pandemic, it has now been postponed to 20–26 August.

The time is nevertheless being used intensively. In Linz, the team led by Head Coach Alexander Bröms has found excellent conditions and is working intensively on its own system: “It is good to be in Austria and that we have the opportunity to work and play. We are taking the opportunity to have more time to prepare for the World Championship and are working hard on the basics and with the playbook.”

Before the players are released for their well-deserved summer break after a long and intensive season, they will have two more tests against Slovakia, an opponent at the World Championship Division IA in China this summer, and aim to put into practice what they have worked on, Alexander Bröms: “It is important that every player knows the playbook and can execute it correctly. In my opinion, that and the fundamental details we are working on are important and will help us achieve our goals in China.”

The first of two tests takes place on Saturday evening at 19:00. A dedicated group of Steinbach Black Wings Linz fans has announced it will be there with drums to support the team. Test No. 2 follows on Sunday morning at 10:30. Both games will also be streamed on LIVE.eishockey.at.

For the period until August, the players will also be given several tasks, Alexander Bröms: “We want to ensure that they arrive at the team camp before the World Championship well prepared.”
