Adler Kitzbühel take a 3:1 lead into Saturday’s second leg of the final against Zeller Eisbären
EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel won Thursday’s first leg of the Austrian Championship final in the Alps Hockey League away to EK Die Zeller Eisbären 3:1 and will take a two-goal advantage into the all-important home game at Sportpark Kitzbühel on Saturday. The tie will be decided in Champions Hockey League format: the team leading on aggregate after Saturday’s second leg will be crowned champions.

After a scoreless first period, the Tyroleans really got going in the second period in front of 2.900 fans at KE KELIT Arena. Paolo Wieltschnig gave Adler an early 1:0 lead (with 25 on the clock). Anthony De Luca made it 2:0 (with 36 on the clock) before Niklas Ketonen added the 3:0 (with 38 on the clock), with the quick double strike giving the Kitzbühel side a comfortable three-goal lead after 40 minutes.
In the final period, Helmut Berger pulled it back to 1:3 for Eisbären and gave the Salzburg side a little more hope for Saturday’s second leg in Kitzbühel (with 54 on the clock). In the end, Head Coach Marco Pewal’s team celebrated a 3:1 victory and can seal the title on home ice on Saturday.
