1st title for the Steelers

At the end of March, the final decision in the first Austrian Para ice hockey championship had to be postponed indefinitely due to the emerging Covid-19 pandemic.

However, last Sunday, on 25 October, the time had come, with the final of the three tournaments between the Carinthian Steelers Klagenfurt, the HV Warriors and Steirische Panther Graz able to be played in Frohnleiten, Styria.

Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to the participants in the Austrian Para ice hockey championship.

The Carinthian Steelers had travelled to Styria as heavy favourites to finish in first place after the Carinthians had clearly dominated their rivals in the first four games. The Steelers had not conceded a single goal before the final matchday.

That was to remain the case in Frohnleiten. The final scores were 16:0 against Steirische Panther and 9:0 against the HV Warriors in favour of the Steelers, who secured the first Austrian Para ice hockey championship title with six wins and a goal difference of 60:0.

The close battle for second place went to the HV Warriors, who won all three games this season (1:0, 4:2, 3:1) against the Graz side. The successful, extended inaugural championship is set to be followed in the coming weeks and months by a second edition as an Austrian national championship.
