17th title for the Sabres
On Saturday, EHV Sabres Wien celebrated their 17th Austrian championship title. In the "Best-of-Three" final series against perennial rivals DEC Salzburg Eagles, the Viennese side once again came out on top.

The final series in the Austrian Women's Championship was an evenly matched contest. EHV Sabres Wien and DEC Salzburg Eagles gave nothing away in the two "Best of Three" encounters and engaged in an open exchange of blows.
The first game last Saturday was evenly poised for long periods, with the Viennese side only securing victory and a 1:0 series lead in the closing minutes. The second game on Saturday afternoon in Vienna developed into a lively goal fest. The Eagles were determined from the outset to level the series and force a decisive third final.
The visitors took the lead in the sixth minute through a goal from Agata Sarnovska, fuelled by the motivation they needed. The Viennese side were only briefly shaken by the early deficit before completely turning the game around by midway through. Monika Vlcek (14.), Karolina Hengelmüller (25.), Kayla Nielsen (31.) and Nadine Edney (32.) put the game beyond doubt and brought the Sabres very close to the title.
Although Salzburg repeatedly rallied, they could do no more than reduce the deficit to two goals. In the end, the Sabres celebrated a 7:5 victory, set in motion by veteran Esther Väärälä's six-point game, and their 17thchampionship title in the club's history.
KEHV Lakers secured third place in the Austrian championship, with a 3:3 draw in the return leg against KSV Neuberg Highlanders enough to claim bronze following their 5:0 away win.
