"Considering the path we have taken over the past few years, our objective at a tournament like this is, of course, to win. We want to win games and I am confident that we have a good chance in these games," says Thomas Raffl is motivated to improve the record against Norway, but also knows: "Norway will be an initial test, and we will see how far we have come as a team."

The most recent meeting with the Scandinavians came at the 2022 World Championship in Tampere. One day after the historic win over the Czech Republic, Austria had to concede a 3:5 defeat to Norway. The last victory dates back almost three years. On 7 February 2020, Austria won 2:0 at the Austria Cup in Klagenfurt.

Who the opponent will be on Saturday remains open, as the Four Nations Tournament is played in a semi-final-final format. But whether Austria face hosts Denmark or France, they have encouraging records against both nations. In 66 games against France, Austria have recorded 35 wins, ten draws and 21 defeats. Austria have won each of the last three meetings, while their most recent defeat came, of all places, on Danish soil. They lost 2:5 in Copenhagen at the 2018 World Championship.

Austria have also recorded three wins over Denmark in their most recent meetings. Just four months ago, they won 3:1 at the Deutschland Cup. Their last defeat came in a friendly in Vienna in May 2019. The overall record against Denmark stands at 28 wins, one draw and nine defeats.
