Austria were the slightly better team in the opening period, but thanks in part to the strong performance of "Oranje" goaltender Eline Gabriele, the score was 0:0 after 20 minutes. The Netherlands took control in the second period and captain Savine Wielenga gave them a 1:0 lead on the power play, which Anna Meixner was able to equalise shortly afterwards.

Just 36 seconds after the Austrians' equaliser, the hosts were back in front, with Bieke Van Nes scoring for 2:1. Three minutes from time, Bieke Van Nes sealed the 3:1 result.

Head Coach Alexander Bröms: "We tried to find our game and play according to our playbook. Unfortunately, we made too many mistakes, especially in our passing game. We are in a development process and have many new players compared to December. We cannot be satisfied with today's game. We have to keep the Netherlands out of our defensive zone and find our own way into the offensive zone. We want to do significantly better tomorrow than we did today."
